A reception was held in Dhaka on Friday to mark the National Day of Romania.
Enayetullah Khan, Honorary Consul of Romania in Bangladesh as well as Editor-in-Chief of UNB and Dhaka Courier, hosted the reception at his Baridhara residence.
At the beginning, a moment of silence was observed paying deepest respect to the people who laid down their lives to achieve the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, as well as those who sacrificed their lives during the July-August revolution this year.
Khan highlighted the relations between Bangladesh and Romania, and wished greater cooperation among nations of the world and greater cooperation between Bangladesh and Romania. "Long live our friendship."
Speaking as the chief guest, Honorary Emeritus Adviser to Cosmos Foundation and President of the Bay of Bengal Institute, Ambassador (retd) Tariq Ahmad Karim, said Enayetullah Khan is doing a wonderful job as the Honorary Consul of Romania in Bangladesh.
He wished Bangladesh-Romania relations would grow from strength to strength.
Karim wished for peace and prosperity not just for the two countries but for the entire world.
Ambassador Karim said their job is to build bridges between peoples, institutions and government and sow seeds of new ideas of cooperation and friendship between the countries.
Renowned scholar-diplomat and former Adviser on Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Caretaker Government Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, academics and diplomats attended the reception. Business leaders, city elite, and former civil and defence officials were also present.
