University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB)'s Department of English and Humanities (DEH) Alumni Association held a virtual reunion on Zoom on August 2 for its alumni students and faculties.
Former DEH faculties and alumni students from both locally and across the globe, were invited by the ULAB DEH Alumni Association for reminiscing old times and catching up with everyone's current activities.
Mohit Ul Alam, former head of ULAB DEH and currently a professor at Premier University in Chittagong, expressed his joy after seeing many of his students now successful in various professions.
Golam Sarwar Chowdhury, former DEH faculty and currently professor at Notre Dame University Bangladesh, recalled how interesting his 10-year tenure was at ULAB DEH, the groundwork that was laid to establish where DEH is today, and other experiences.
Rebeka Badiozzaman, valedictorian and gold medallist at ULAB Convocation 2012 and a DEH alumnus, said the achievements and accolades gathered by the DEH alumni were amazing and diverse in their nature.
Syeda Zeenatunnessa Ali, president of ULAB DEH Alumni Association, thanked all the participants for making time to attend the digital reunion and also recalled how the ULAB DEH community of teachers and its students was tightly-knit and will continue to remain so.
Among others, Prof Kaiser Haq, dean of ULAB School of Arts and Humanities (SAH), DEH Associate Professor Arifa Ghani Rahman, DEH Assistant Professor Nadia Rahman and other former DEH faculties also spoke at the occasion.
Formed in March earlier this year, the ad hoc committee of ULAB DEH Alumni Association has been trying to reestablish contact and solidarity between former DEH faculties and alumni, as well as support current DEH students in whichever capacity possible.
The committee was formed amid the coronavirus outbreak, which deterred its initiatives and line of programs.
Despite this setback, the committee was able to donate to the "Ek Takay Ahar" initiative of the Bidyanando Foundation, for helping the marginalized community who were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ULAB DEH Alumni Association plans to initiate a series of trainings and workshops to groom students for their professional careers, once the overall situation improves.
