A meeting was recently held in Dhaka between Jarno Syrjälä, Deputy Minister of State (International Trade) of Finland, and representatives of the Cosmos Group.

On behalf of Cosmos, Masud Jamil Khan, Deputy Managing Director of Cosmos Group, and Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, former Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh and President of the Cosmos Foundation, attended the meeting.

Finnish Ambassador Kimmo Lähdevirta was also present.

The cooperation between Finland and Bangladesh was launched with bilateral development cooperation in 1975, with Finland focusing on development credit and developing Bangladesh's infrastructure, among other things.

Trade between Bangladesh and Finland is growing, with Bangladesh mostly exporting ready-to-wear clothing and footwear to Finland. Finnish engineering has left a strong imprint on Bangladesh's energy sector, as more than a quarter of the country's energy production capacity was built by Wärtsilä.
