Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury
Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, chairman of HRC Group, passed away on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
His personal secretary Md. Sohel confirmed the news.
Chowdhury was the eldest son of Hedaet Hossain Chowdhury, the founder chairman of Karnaphuli Group, renowned educationist, language activist, and social worker. He was also the elder brother of Saber Hossain Chowdhury, the managing director (MD) of Karnaphuli Group and Chairman of Desh TV.
Chowdhury made significant contributions to the development of Bangladesh's tea industry. Under his leadership, HRC Group emerged as one of the country's leading tea exporters, elevating Bangladesh's profile on the international stage.
Beyond the tea industry, HRC Group has long been active in various sectors, including tourism, shipbuilding, real estate, transportation, agriculture, and food processing. The group's ventures have provided employment opportunities for thousands of people.
Chowdhury also represented Bangladesh internationally, having served as the former Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Spain.
He maintained a highly dignified image in diplomatic circles. For a long time, he was associated with various international organisations and forums, playing a crucial role in highlighting Bangladesh's potential in business and investment.
Despite being a prominent industrialist, he consistently stood by ordinary people. His numerous initiatives in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation garnered widespread praise. As a business leader and social worker, he received various awards and honors both at home and abroad.
Chowdhury is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and a host of admirers. His family members are deeply saddened by his passing.
