Alvin and the Chipmunks is an animated musical film. The film was released in 2007. Tim Hill directed Alvin and the Chipmunks. Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are Chipmunks that talk. Alvin, Simon, and Theodore live in a fir tree. The tree gets cut down and is driven to Los Angeles. JETT Records buys the tree as a Christmas tree. Dave Seville is a struggling songwriter. Dave's new demo gets rejected by Ian Hawke. Ian Hawke is the CEO of JETT Records. Ian was Dave's roommate in college. Ian tells Dave to stop writing songs. Next the Chipmunks get into a basket of muffins that Dave steals from Ian's colleague. The Chipmunks go to Dave's house. Dave finds out that the Chipmunks are at his house. At first Dave asks the Chipmunks to leave. After Dave hears the Chipmunks sing "Only You (And You Alone)" and "Funkytown", Dave decides the Chipmunks can live with him if they sing his songs.

At night Dave hears the Chipmunks hum as they are asleep. Then Dave writes a song for them. The next day Dave plays his piano as the Chipmunks sing "Christmas Don't Be Late". The song is Dave's song. Later Dave presents the Chipmunks to Ian. The Chipmunks fail to sing due to performance anxiety. The day becomes worse as Dave is fired from his advertising job. The Chipmunks unknowingly destroyed Dave's presentation boards. Then Dave has Claire come over for dinner. Claire is Dave's ex-girlfriend. Dave tries to hide the Chipmunks. Alvin tries to change the atmosphere. Claire feels uneasy, then Claire leaves. Later the Chipmunks sing Dave's song at Ian's mansion. Ian next signs a record deal with the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks gain fame as global superstars. Dave worries about the Chipmunks, and tells Ian that the Chipmunks are too young for the stress of fame. Ian disagrees with Dave. The Chipmunks decide to live with Ian. Ian's goal is to just profit from the success of the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks next embark on a tour nationwide in the U.S. Ian makes the Chipmunks overwork. Next Ian decides an international yearlong tour for the Chipmunks. This is reported in the news.

Later Dave goes to a concert to retrieve the Chipmunks, at the Orpheum Theatre. Before the concert a veterinarian explains to Ian that the voices of the Chipmunks have been strained. All this is due to exhaustion. The veterinarian advises for the Chipmunks to take a long rest. Ian advises the Chipmunks to lip sync. Dave sneaks into the theatre with Claire. The Chipmunks hear Dave's voice. The Chipmunks understand that Ian has tricked them. The Chipmunks create chaos onstage. They destroy the show. Next Dave is dealt with, by security. Next Ian locks the Chipmunks in a cage. Ian prepares for the world tour of the Chipmunks. Ian goes to his limousine as Dave chases him. Dave loses Ian. The Chipmunks somehow appear in Dave's car. Dave and the Chipmunks reunite. Ian finds out that the Chipmunks have escaped. This destroys Ian's career.

The cast of Alvin and the Chipmunks includes: Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Jason Lee, and David Cross. Justin Long did the speaking voice of Alvin. Matthew Gray Gubler did the speaking voice of Simon. Jesse McCartney did the speaking voice of Theodore. Jason Lee acted as Dave Seville. David Cross acted as Ian Hawke. Ross Bagdasarian Sr. created the three singing Chipmunks.
