For paying homage to deceased rock legend Ayub Bachchu, a guitar statue named 'Rupali Guitar' has been unveiled on September 18 at Prabartak circle of Chattogram city. At the same time, Chattogram City Corporation authority has entitled the circle as 'Ayub Bachchu Chattar'. The statue has been inaugurated by AJM Nasir Uddin, mayor of Chattogram City Corporation.
The 18 feet high silver guitar, containing 6 strings, is made of steel bars. The guitar statute is also a part of beautification project of Chattogram city by 'Chattogram Development Authority (CDA)'.
Ayub Bachchu was the lead guitarist, vocalist and composer of Bangladeshi popular rock band 'LRB (Love Runs Blind)'. Last year by breaking the heart of the music lovers, he died of a heart attack at the age of 60 on October 18 in Dhaka. Blessed with the remarkable guitar playing skills, he is known as the 'Magician of Guitar'. 'Ghumonto Shohore', 'Madhobi', 'Cholo Bodle Jai', 'Rupali Guitar' and 'Ferari Mon' are some of the famous songs of Ayub Bachchu's LRB. He was buried at the Chaitanya lane graveyard in Chattogram.
