A 23-day long solo art exhibition of Proshanto Karmakar Buddha titled 'Peace' was inaugurated at Gallery Cosmos in the city on September 28.
The exhibition showcased 42 artworks and was inaugurated by Ambassador of France to Bangladesh, Marie-Annick Bourdin, who was the chief guest.
She said "The artist is questing peace through art and that is the thing we always trying to find out."
Chairperson of Gulshan Literary Programme Foundation, Nazneen Azim, Managing Director of Totaltel, Engr. Iftikhar Kajol, Advisor of English Department of Independent University Dr. Niaz Zaman and Director of the Cosmos Gallery, Tehmina Enayet were also present at the programme.
The artist made the art pieces on his own modern and unique style.
Proshanto said he always wanted a world devoid of chaos, brutality and hopelessness and he brought the hope and desire for peace in his art works.
"I want people live together with joy and happiness not in violence," he added.
The artist got several national and international awards, such as the 1992 "Honorable Mention" at a competition under Alliance Française de Dhaka, the 1991 Okamoto Prize by Asian Cultural Center for UNSECO held in Tokyo, Japan, the 1990 Best Award on printmaking at the 9th National Young Artist's Exhibition at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka, and 5 awards in 1989-90 from the Bangladesh Photographic Society.
