The 19th Amar Bhasar Chalachitra festival organised by Dhaka University Film Society started on February 9 at Teachers-Students Centre of Dhaka University (DU).
The five-day film festival featured a total of 22 films comprising 19 full length feature films and three short films.
State minister for information Md Murad Hasan attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest while Dhaka University Film Society moderator AAMS Arefin Siddique and The Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh president Lailun Nahar, among others, were present at the programme.
The opening day of the festival featured films namely 'Ashani Sanket' directed by Satyajit Ray along with short films namely 'Shehkirta' by Yasmin Kabira, 'Pratikriti' by Shamim Akter and 'Meenalap' by Subarna Sejuti.
'Grihajuddha' by Buddhadev Dasgupta, 'Rupantar' by Abu Sayeed, 'Asha Jawar Majhey' by Aditya Vikram Sengupta and omnibus film 'Iti Tomari Dhaka' was screened at the festival on February 10.
The concluding day of the event will feature an awards programme where one film will receive the Hiralal Sen Padak-1426 in the Best Film category.
DUFS has been organising Amar Bhasar Chalachitra festival every year with the slogan 'Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak' since 2000 marking International Mother Language Day.
