The genre of crime thrillers in movies is highly appreciated in the whole world for the visualization of people's weird psyche. However, any sort of crime is not and should also not be appreciated in real world- although the reality is pretty different in Bangladesh. Because of the horrific psyche of some people and their merciless mayhems, the country has been suffering for years now. The development of our country is highly likely to be hampered if random murders like Rifat's killing, a very tragic and fresh one- continue to occur crossing every borderline of violence. What leads to a series of killings that we are observing nowadays?

Well, maximum Bangladeshi citizens will unequivocally opine that lack of justice is responsible for such brutal behavior. Is it only the literacy rate, along with yearly passing ratio of secondary and higher secondary examinations that determines the growth of the country? Ironically, there are a lot more factors involved which influence the growth of this country. Most importantly, consistent and unbiased application of justice contributes the overall development of a country, as it will ensure the criminals will keep in mind that their behavior will not be tolerated, and law abiding citizens become more confident and less distracted. Furthermore, when a zero tolerance principle is applied against all the criminals irrespective of their personal and political identities- the number of crimes will undoubtedly go down and this will eventually serve a good message to the victims as well. On top of that, we also need to address potential corruption in the judicial system from junior police to senior judges. If wealthy criminals understand that they can buy their way out of trouble each and every time, then we are only punishing people who misguidedly commit crimes out of poverty.

Over the past few years, crimes such as murders, rapes, and other illegal activities have increased at an unprecedented rate, which is one of the most alarming things for every honest citizen of the country. How can the accused persons remain unpunished despite all the evidence against them? There is no denying that they somehow manage to get out of the custody even though they are accused. As a consequence, it is a sad indictment that no one feels justice is ever possible in our beautiful country.

A myriad of killings and rapes have occurred in recent times. Over the period of time, people might forget Bishwajit, Shagar-Runi, Avijit, Taki, Nusrat and Tanu- but certainly their families could not. Sadly, Rifat's murder has been the most recent instance of that. Nevertheless, the agencies responsible for the application of justice seem oblivious to these events. Everybody seems to have taken it for granted that people will either die by accidents or by murder. Now the question arises: while hundreds of victims are being persistently deprived of justice, are we truly independent or 'in dependent' in this country?

Imagine a group of people receiving no justice whatsoever. Now, will they further rely on the local judicial system? If they chose not to, will they still be living in the same place they are in mortal danger? Think about the future of this country. Who will take this country to the apex of success in the future? The youth, obviously; but once they leave this country due to lack of security and justice- this country will run out of intelligence. What is even worse is that many established professionals like doctors, engineers, bankers and businessmen have been migrating to foreign countries, for a better and secured living due to the lack of security. If this continues to happen, soon the country will lose many of its brilliant brains and that would be a major stumbling block towards the development of our country.

Nonetheless, it seems that not many have considered the aftermath of this. If meritorious residents continue abandoning this country, it will result in a sharp decline in progression. In addition to it, if this country is lacking in quality teachers, doctors and researchers, will it ever reach its ultimate goal of "Digital Bangladesh, Vision 2021 that comprises people's democracy and human rights, transparency, accountability and establishing justice"? The aftermath will surely be a nightmare then. How long our law enforcement agencies remain blind to these horrific occurrences? How long will politicians remain silent on these serious matters?

It is high time our government and justice departments acted in unison to protect law abiding and productive citizens of our country. We should not forget- this country was achieved through the blood of 3 million martyrs. All these chaotic scenarios of the nation are certainly not the reasons that our martyrs sacrificed their lives for, this not the country what the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt for and this is not the country 16 Crore people deserve. It is high time to avoid being divided based on individual opinions and perform reasonable actions- before it is too late.
