Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has assured that Qatar would extend all possible support to Bangladesh in ensuring energy security, particularly under the current challenging circumstances.
He described Bangladesh as a brotherly country when Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman met the Qatari Prime Minister at his office in Doha on August 19.
During the meeting, Dr Khalilur Rahman conveyed the greetings of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Qatari leadership.
He expressed Bangladesh's solidarity with Qatar and commended its constructive and responsible role in promoting peace, security and stability in the region, which is important for the wider region and beyond, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Dr Khalilur on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and reiterated Qatar's commitment to extending its support and cooperation for the successful discharge of his responsibilities.
Dr Khalilur Rahman invited the Qatari Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
Later, the Foreign Minister met with Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Adviser to the Prime Minister for Finance and Planning Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, and senior officials from both sides were present at the meetings.
During Dr Khalilur's two-day official visit, Bangladesh and Qatar discussed issues of mutual interest, with particular focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, labour and financial sectors.
The two sides placed emphasis on enhancing labour cooperation, ensuring the welfare and protection of Bangladeshi workers, and expanding employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers, including skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman concluded his two-day official visit to Qatar on Wednesday.
Both sides expressed their interest in deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual benefit.
The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and explored ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Qatar.
The Foreign Minister also met with Qatar's Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri.
The two Ministers discussed issues of mutual interest, with particular focus on labour cooperation, workers' welfare and protection, and expanding employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers, including skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Qatari Labour Minister Dr. Al Marri commended the valuable contribution of Bangladeshi workers to Qatar's economy and development.
Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the labour and manpower sector.
