ABM Sarwer-E-Alom Sarker, assistant press secretary to the prime minister, has gifted US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller some photos of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The photos were taken at Tufts University during the US Department of State's Foreign Leaders Exchange Programme in 1958.
The US ambassador tweeted the photos Thursday on his verified Twitter account.
The then general secretary of Awami League Sheikh Mujib left Dhaka for the US on April 7, 1958 on an extensive visit and showed his potential in the arena of public diplomacy.
Starting his journey from Dhaka, he left Pakistan from Karachi and arrived in the UK. From there he made the trans-Atlantic journey to arrive in America, according to the reports of the then dailies.
In 1957, Bangabandhu as the personal envoy of then-Prime Minister Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy of Pakistan also started an extensive visit which was adjourned halfway.
He left Dhaka for Moscow on October 4. Due to the dissolution of Suhrawardy's cabinet, Sheikh Mujib was recalled on October 10 while he was visiting Bern en route to Moscow, according to the daily Azad.
