The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Maritime Search and Rescue Society (MSRS), a philanthropic institution, was held at the Army Golf Club in the capital on Monday.
Rear Admiral (retd) A Taher, former Chief of Naval Staff and MSRS Chairman, presided over the meeting.
The meeting was attended by MSRS Executive Committee members Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, immediate past Chief of Naval Staff, Nature and Heritage Conservationist and founder Editor of UNB and Dhaka Courier Enayetullah Khan, famous fashion designer Bibi Russell and renowned philanthropist Yves Marre.
The executive committee discussed various pertinent issues to invigorate the operational activities of the society so that it can achieve its desired goal of protecting the lives of seafarers of Bangladesh.
Speakers emphasised the need for organising regular educational awareness programmes and conducting swimming training to reduce the loss of lives due to drowning.
MSRS is a philanthropic institution which is working alongside other maritime organisations of the country to conduct the rescue of seafarers, fishermen, passengers and water users who are in distress at sea or in internal waterways of Bangladesh.
The mission of the society also includes saving the lives lost during unfortunate drowning incidents that take away many lives in Bangladesh every year.
