Bangladeshi celebrities and officials at British High Commission in Dhaka came out from their busy schedules and played a friendly football match on December 1 to celebrate the spirit of gender equality and women empowerment through sports.
The British High Commission in Dhaka in association with Standard Chartered Bank hosted the friendly football match between two teams - Lions and Tigers - at the British High Commission Club.
Female and male football players - Bangladeshi members of UK football fan clubs, popular Bangladeshi celebrities Peya Jannatul, Iresh Zaker, Mehreen Mahmud, Raisa Rafsana and Korbi Rakshand Dhrubo, among others, played the match.
Deputy High Commissioner at the British High Commission Kanbar Hossein Bor who inaugurated the match also played.
Kanbar stressed on two countries' common love for football, and shared effort to achieve gender equality.
He also mentioned how sports played a significant role to strengthen the UK-Bangladesh relationship.
Lions won the match beating Tigers by 4-3 goals. Senior officials of the Standard Chartered Bank were also present.
