Bengal Classical Music Festival for this year has been pushed back due to the prevailing overall atmosphere of the country. The festival has been pushed beyond the timeframe of this year. Thus 2018 would see no Classical Music Fest. This is happening for the first time in six years. The festival for 2018 would be held from February 7 to 11 next year. They are looking to retain their old destination, Army Stadium this time though.
Last year the festival also was threatened due to venue booking complications. Due to the arrival of Pope the organisers could not get the much favoured Army Stadium of Banani as venue. They could not arrange the festival elsewhere too, as guest performers from abroad were used to Army Stadium. After much ado the festival was finally arranged within the time-limit of 2017, in the final week of December. Usually till 2016 the festival has been held in the final week of November in Army Stadium.
This time even if they have lost the timeframe of 2018 they are looking at least to retain the favoured venue. Luva Nahid Chowhdury, director general of Bengal Foundation has said that they have already applied for booking Army Stadium in February, 2019.
