Pakistan's Supreme Court has ordered jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to be moved to hospital, following complaints about his poor health. A three-judge panel ordered that the cricketer-turned-politician be taken to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad in the next 48 hours to be examined by physicians. The court also said Khan would be allowed weekly meetings with family members and telephone calls with his sons.

Khan has been imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges, which he says were politically motivated. The Pakistani government has not publicly commented on the court ruling. In Tuesday's court order, the panel wrote: "We are mindful of the constitutional and legal obligation... to safeguard the life, health, dignity and security of the prisoner." The 73-year-old's lawyers have said he's suffering from various health conditions, including poor eyesight, and has been unable to access specialist medical care. Despite his jailing, in many people's estimation Khan remains Pakistan's most popular politician.

North Korea said that a US decision to scale back military exercises with South Korea does not change what it sees as the provocative nature of the drills, dampening hopes for an early resumption of diplomacy between the country's leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump. For scaled effect, the statement came from the powerful sister of Kim Jong Un, in her country's first reaction to Trump's moves to drastically cut back the annual US-South Korean military drills.

"We think it's not worth making comments on that and we have no interest in it at all," Kim Yo Jong said in a statement carried by state media. "The provocative, aggressive nature of the drills won't change even though their duration and size were reduced." Trump had earlier ordered the Pentagon to "substantially reduce" the joint exercises, citing what he said was a good relationship with Kim and South Korea's refusal to support him over Iran.

In yet another upset for the Democratic establishment in the US, progressive Angie Nixon won the party's primary for a Senate seat in Florida, beating former army intelligence officer Alexander Vindman. Nixon, a state representative and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, had significantly less funding going into the primary - with $975,000 to Vindman's $16.3m at the end of July, according to Florida Politics. It followed a series of primary wins for DSA-backed candidates across the country, including in primaries in Philadelphia, Colorado, Michigan and New York City.

The most prominent was Abdul El-Sayed, who won the Democratic nomination for Senate in Michigan. Even though he calls himself a capitalist, was never a member of DSA, and wasn't formally endorsed by DSA, Sayed's win, along with others such as Nixon, and even Francesca Hong's close second in the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin, signals the left's growing reach. But some party insiders worry about these candidates' prospects come November.

A new personalised vaccine given in combination with a drug has stopped skin cancer returning in patients during a trial, representing a potentially watershed moment in cancer treatment. The vaccine, developed by drug companies Merck and Moderna, was given to patients with high-risk melanoma, a type of skin cancer, after they had surgery. Early results show this new jab extended the length of time these patients were cancer free, but it's unclear for how long, according to an announcement by the two firms.

Cancer experts say this is a breakthrough, but emphasise caution as the full results have not been released or peer-reviewed whereby independent experts examine and check the trial findings. The vaccine, called Intismeran, was given in combination with Keytruda, an immunotherapy drug already used in cancer treatment. Compared with taking the Keytruda on its own, the companies said taking the drug and vaccine together significantly increased the time patients remained cancer free and reduced the risk of the disease spreading to other organs.
