Shahid Quadri was a poet and writer. For his poetry, he was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973 and Ekushey Padak in 2011. His notable poems include "Uttoradhikar", "Tomake Obhibadon Priyotoma", "Kothao Kono Krondon Nei" and "Amar Chumbongulo Poucchey Dao".

Born in Kolkata in 1942, Quadri moved to Dhaka when he was 10 years old. Quadri is one of the prominent poets of post-1947 Bengali poetry, who brought a new angle to the Bangladeshi scene by introducing urbanism and a sense of modernity. His poetry is infused with patriotism, cosmopolitanism and universalism and in its treatment of nature and city life, it delves deep into the conflicts and the sense of alienation pervading modern life. Though he published only four books of poetry, his tone, alliteration, images and the use of simile made him a unique contributor of Bengali verse.

Quadri was a friend of poet Shamsur Rahman. At the age of fourteen, his first poem got published in the magazine 'Kabita', edited by Buddhadeb Bosu, another major poet of the 30's. Soon after that, Quadri subsequently became a well-known figure among the poets of Dhaka and Kolkata.

After the publication of his third book, Quadri stopped writing and started living in London and Germany. Later, in the 80's, he moved to the United States and started living in Boston. After the hiatus, he returned to writing again and published his fourth book in 2009.

Quadri died at the age of 74 on August 28 in 2016.
