The so-called Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for a bomb attack at the Science Lab intersection in Dhaka in which two policemen, including a member of the security detail of LGRD Minister Tazul Islam, were injured.Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said that police were the target of the attack, as they were of three recent incidents in which bombs were blasted in Gulistan and Malibagh, and one was recovered at a police box in Khejur Bagan near the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Hours after the explosion, the SITE Intelligence Group said the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks. On May 26, two people, including a female police officer, were injured after a bomb went off near a police pickup in the capital's Malibagh intersection. On April 29, two traffic police constables and a community traffic policeman were injured in a blast in Gulistan.

The Supreme Court Bar Association in a resolution welcomed inquiries against three High Court Division judges and expressed the hope that the president and the chief justice "would take action against several other judges against whom various rumours were in circulation for long". The SCBA said that action should be taken against errant judges in the interest of protecting the image of the judiciary.

SCBA adopted the resolution seven days after the three judges, whose names are being protected, went on leave on personal grounds, after the chief justice allocated no courts to them in light of the investigation, which was described as 'an unprecedented development'. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the chief justice took the decision in consultation with the president. The CJ had also discussed the matter with other judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, he said.

The Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner for the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar, Mohammad Abul Kalam, was withdrawn apparently for allowing Rohingyas to stage a rally on August 25 and failure to rein in the controversial activities of some NGOs. Besides, the in-charge of Kutupalong Refugee Camps No. 4 and 5 Shamimul Haque Pavel (deputy secretary), and in-charge and assistant in-charge of Teknaf Nayapara Refugee Camps No. 13, 14 and 19 Md Abdul Wahab Rashed (senior assistant secretary) and Md Jahangir Alam respectively, were also withdrawn.

It was also announced that the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, with the help of mobile phone operators, will verify all the mobile connections that are in use in the Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya upazilas of Cox's Bazar.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and seven others were granted bail in an arson attack case filed in October last year. The seven other BNP leaders are Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr Moyeen Khan, Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu and Nazrul Islam Khan. After they surrendered before the court seeking bail, Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansary granted their prayers on grounds that they will have to appear before the court on the dates scheduled for hearing in the case.

The case was filed on October 1 last year with Hatirjheel Police Station against Mirza Fakhrul and 55 others. On submission of police report a month back, the High Court later granted them anticipatory bail and directed them to appear before the Metropolitan Sessions Judges' Court of Dhaka.
