The High Court scrapped the trial proceedings of 11 cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The cases were filed in connection with arson, violence, and sedition with different police stations in Dhaka in 2015. The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain delivered the verdicts after hearing 11 petitions filed by Khaleda in 2017 seeking to quash the proceedings of the cases.

Khaleda's lawyers Zainul Abedin, Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Kayser Kamal, and Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim told reporters that trial proceedings of 10 arson and violence cases were cancelled on the grounds that their client was not even present at the places of occurrences mentioned in the cases. The HC quashed the sedition case as it was filed without taking permission from the Home Ministry. Prior to the latest 11, lower courts earlier dismissed nine defamation cases against Khaleda. She was granted clemency in two further cases, out of the total 37 filed against her during the AL regime.

The interim government has sent a letter to the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure direct communication with the organisation, bypassing its Regional Director Saima Wazed, daughter of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The Chief Adviser's Press wing made this statement at a briefing on Wednesday (Oct. 30) evening. "WHO Regional Director Saima Wazed Putul is dysfunctional for us right now. She has been implicated in several criminal cases and financial crimes, so we have informed WHO to take urgent action so that we can communicate with them directly," said Apurba Jahangir, deputy press secretary.

Apurba said, as Saima is a family member of the 'ousted fascist,' her role in supporting Bangladesh raises questions, and so they want direct communication with WHO. Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, supplemented Apurbo saying: "She has been implicated in several criminal charges, and BFIU has frozen her bank and is investigating his account, so there is no way for us to work with her now."

Three members of the United People's Democratic Front, a Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political party, were killed in a shooting in broad daylight in Khagrachhari's Panchhari Upazila. The incident took place around 10am on Wednesday (Oct. 30)in the Shanti Ranjan Para area, according to Mohammad Jasim, chief of Panchhari Police Station. UPDF District Organiser Angya Marma also confirmed the shootings. The victims were identified as Sizan Chakma, Shason Tripura, and Joyen Chakma.

In response, the regional group announced a dawn-to-dusk road blockade across the district on Thursday. The blockade brought vehicular movement on both internal and long-distance routes, including the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, to a standstill, causing significant disruption. UPDF members have been frequently targeted and killed in such attacks in an assassination campaign that goes back to 2018. "Last year, these same attackers killed four individuals, including Bipul Chakma, in Panchhari's Pujgang. Yet no action was taken against them by the government or authorities," the party said in a statement.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur has said tycoons connected to the ousted government of Sheikh Hasina syphoned off nearly $17 billion from the country's banking sector during her more than 15-year rule. In an interview with British newspaper the Financial Times, Mansur said the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), Bangladesh's powerful military intelligence agency, played a role in orchestrating forced takeovers of some banks.

He said an estimated Tk2 lakh crore, equivalent to $16.7 billion, had been spirited out of Bangladesh following these bank takeovers, using methods such as loans issued to their new shareholders and inflated import invoices. Among the central figures Dr Mansur identified was Saiful Alam, the founder and chairman of the S Alam Group, who the governor held responsible for redirecting a minimum $10 billion, exploiting his newly acquired control over banks with DGFI assistance. All these points made the looting of banks in Bangladesh during this period unprecedented in scale and nature throughout world history.
