Abul Kalam Azad
United News of Bangladesh (UNB) Editor-in-Chief Enayetullah Khan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the news agency's Bogura correspondent Abul Kalam Azad.
Describing his death as a great loss for the UNB family, Khan said Azad had served with great distinction as the agency's correspondent in Bogura, one of the country's important northern districts, for years.
"With great regret and sorrow, I note the passing of UNB's Bogura correspondent Abul Kalam Azad, who breathed his last in the early hours of Monday while being rushed to hospital. It is a great loss for the UNB family," he said in a condolence message.
Azad started his career with the Bogura-based daily Satmatha. He also served several terms as treasurer of the Bogura Press Club.
His long career in journalism made him one of the most important and reliable sources of news from the district, said the Editor-in-Chief.
"While expressing deep sorrow at his death, I and the entire UNB family pray for the eternal salvation of his departed soul and convey our heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family," he added.
Azad breathed his last at around 2:30am while being taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, his family said. He was 55.
He complained of chest pain and was rushed to the hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Azad left behind a daughter a son and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his death.
