Wrishiz Shilpigosthi paid tributes to three towering figures of Bangla literature in a programme arranged recently at Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh in the city. Multi-dimensional litterateurs Rabindranath Tagore, National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sukanta Bhattacharya were felicitated in the programme.

Three living and noted figures of art and culture in the country-thespian Professor Afsar Ahmad, Tagore singer Tapan Mahmud and Rokaiya Hasina Nelly, were also felicitated in the programme. The programme ended with a cultural session where Tapan Mahmud, Fakir Alamgir, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, Samar Barua and Biman Chandra Biswas performed songs.

State minister for Water Transport Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury was the chief guest of the event. Professor Biswajit Ghosh, vice-chancellor of Rabindra University was the keynote speaker at the event. Veteran ganasangeet artiste Fakir Alamgir presided over the event.

The programme started with renditions of songs by Wrishiz. Artistes presented the songs-Himalaya theke Sundarban, Tora Shob Jayadhoni Kor and Agun Jala. Then discussion session followed.

At the discussion session, Bishwajit Ghosh said that we as a nation are going backward. People are being killed on suspicions of being child-abductors by general mass, preposterous but enticing rumours like the mega Padma Bridge project is being built with human heads are being spread. This is not our Bangladesh, Bangladesh has to be rebuilt, the vice-chancellor said. If necessary new has to be welcomed destroying the existent ones.
