November 17 marked the 68th birthday of legendary Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila, one of the most celebrated and respected music artists in the subcontinent who has also established herself as a successful music composer.
Marking the occasion and honouring the prolific artist, Dhrubo Music Station (DMS) is releasing four new songs on its YouTube channel tuned by the composer Runa Laila, with the first one being released on Tuesday.
Titled Ei Dekha Shesh Dekha, the song is sung by young singer Zinia Zafrin Luipa. Runa Laila herself tuned the song with the lyrics penned by eminent lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar, while UK-based Asian singer and music director Raja Kaasheff arranged the music for the song.
As part of the celebration, DMS is also releasing three more songs tuned by Runa Laila including Kothay Rekhechho Amay, penned by Kabir Bakul and sung by Akhi Alamgir; Keno Hoye Gechhi Por, written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar and sung by Tani Laila and Akashe Megh Jomechhe, penned by Kabir Bakul and sung by Haimanti Rakshit. The songs are scheduled to be released in the coming weeks.
Born to Emdad Ali and Amina Laila in Sylhet on November 17, 1952 - Runa Laila has sung and recorded over 10,000 songs in multiple languages besides Bengali, her mother tongue.
Known for her majestic tone and sharp, harmonious voice - Runa Laila has rendered playbacks for Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Indian films and achieved enormous success. She can sing in 18 languages including Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Gujrati, English, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, French and others.
Runa Laila has received seven Bangladesh National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer in Bangladeshi films The Rain (1976), Jadur Banshi (1977), Accident (1989), Ontore Ontore (1994), Devdas (2013) and Priya Tumi Shukhi Hou (2014). Recently started her journey also as a music composer, she won the National Award for the film Ekti Cinemar Golpo (2018).
In her glorious career, Runa Laila has received awards from various countries including Independence Award and multiple National Filherswards in her motherland Bangladesh, Radio Mirchi Music Award presented by Radio Mirchi at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata and Saigal Award in India, Nigar Award and Kalakaar Award in Pakistan, to name a few. She is also a Guinness World Record holder for recording 30 songs within 3 days.
