Dramatist and cultural activist Professor Momtazuddin Ahmed has been admitted in ICU at a city hospital in critical condition. He was taken to Apollo Hospital on October 20 after his asthma got worse. It has also been reported that his lungs are also afflicted. Golam Kuddus, president of Sammilita Sanskritik Jote and student of Professor Momtazuddin Ahmed has said that in the afternoon of the day of admission the Professor could not breathe at all. Afterwards he was admitted in ICU following doctor's suggestions.

Born in 1935 in Chapainawabganj Professor Momtazuddin Ahmed was directly involved in the Language Movement during his college days at Rajshahi Govt. College. On February 21, 1952 he contributed to erect the Shaheed Minar at Muslim Hostel of Rajshahi Govt. College. He had to face prison multiple times for his involvements.

To cater for his creative pursuits he penned a number of dramas. Among them 'Ki Chaho Shankhachil' and 'Rajar Anusharer Pala' have been included in the syllabus of Rabindra Bharati University of Kolkata. Other notable dramas penned by him are- Natyatroyee, Hridoyghatita Bepar Shepar, Zamidar Darpan, Saat Ghater Kanakari. He has also edited Neeldarpan, Sirajuddoula.

He has also been a senior researcher for the implementation of government's national curriculum and syllabus. For his contributions he has won Ekushey Padak (1997), Bangla Academy Award, Shishu Academy Award and many more.
