World Festival of Poetry and KATHAK, a Bangladeshi-Poetry Initiative jointly organized a poetry recitation evening on August 30 in the city. The event was held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Banglamotor, as a venture by the poets to protest the violence occurring across the globe.

Internationally acclaimed poets Dr. Yuri Zambrano and Dr. Mayra Chavez from Mexico and 35 prominent poets from Bangladesh took part and recited their self-composed poems at the event.

With the slogan of "Poetry for Peace", the poets gathered to express themselves by performing their melodious poetry with strong and evocative lyrics. The objective of this event is to establish peace among all and spread the message all over the world.

Director General of Bangla Academy Habibullah Sirajee, poet Mohammad Nurul Huda, poet Aminur Rahman, poet Jahidul Huq, poet Tarik Sujat along with other prominent poets from Bangladesh recited poems at the event. Eminent poets, novelists, renowned artistes of the country, poetry lovers and others from different sections of the society also attended the programme.
