Folk singer Momtaz turned rapper for the first time for music buffs on April 21. In a Baishakhi programme arranged in Hague, Netherlands the singer presented one of her recent hit songs. Titled 'Local Bus,' the song, a fusion of singing plus rap was released from Gaanchill Music in 2016. In the original song the rap lyrics writer Shafayat Hossain rendered the rap portion. But when Momtaz presented the entire song in Hague she performed the rap part by herself. Instantly the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Hague felt moved by the new star of rap. The performance was shared on social media and has become viral.
Momtaz travelled with her team of seven in the programme arranged after nearly a week of the first day of Bengali New Year. It was arranged by the Bangladeshi Embassy in Netherlands. Apart from Bangladeshi expatriates, diplomats from other countries, city mayors of Netherlands took part in the programme. The programme was arranged for the first time in 2015 by the Bangladeshi Embassy and in the very first edition Momtaz had performed. The following editions saw Samina Chowdhury in 2016 and Haimanti and Sandipan in 2018 as key performers.
The original rendition of song Local Bus had Pritom Hasan singing alongside Momtaz while rapper was Shafayat Hossain. The music video was directed by Taneem Rahman Angshu. q
