Shirin Akter and Golam Sarwar of Bangladesh Navy emerged as the best female and male athletes of the 47th National Athletics Championship that concluded today (Saturday) at the renovated Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
Five new national records were set up in the two- day meet, featuring two new national records on the 2nd day, today (Saturday).
Shirin Akter created the day's national mark in the women's 200-meter sprint with a timing of 21 52 seconds to improve her own old mark of 24.97 seconds made in 2019.
Shirin Akter also clinched the gold medal in 100-meter spring, 400 -meter run and 4x100 meter relay.
Navy athlete Golam Sarwar clinched the gold medal in the shot put event with a new national record covering a distance of 14.89 meters to better the previous record of 14.53 made by another Navy athlete M. Ibrahim.
A total of 38 events were decided in the two days of the meet.
Bangladesh Navy topped the medal list securing 19 gold, 18 silver and 12 bronze medals, Bangladesh Army are in the 2nd slot with 19 golds, 17 silver and 12 bronzes while BKSP in the distant 3rd with two gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals.
