Film Debi, based on Humayun Ahmed's novel by the same name has extended to more halls in the second week. Now the total number of halls is 35. The film has in drawn viewers for portraying Humayun Ahmed's iconic character Misir Ali for the first time onscreen. As expected the film has done huge business in the first week, though it was released in only twenty-eight halls. Critics' responses have also been impressive, with minor objections regarding some of the aspects of the film. For an adaptation which its original master Humayun Ahmed himself did not try though he made many successful films in his lifetime, there were obvious speculations about its success. This has by now been eradicated. Also speculations were about how the family members of Humayun Ahmed would accept the film. But Joya Ahsan revealed in her facebook account that all the four children of Humayun Ahmed have watched the film on October 25 and 26 and the pictures posted posit them in obvious jolly mood.

In Debi the character of Misir Ali has been played by Chanchal Chowdhury. It also features actors like Joya Ahsan as Ranu, Animesh Aich as her husband Anis, Shabnam Faria as Nilu and Iresh Zaker as the sinister Ahmed Sabet.

Critics are unanimous about giving 9 out of 10 with regards to acting, cinematography, screenplay, dialogue, music and use of technology in the film. Critics have also unanimously lauded the chilly, eerie, ominous atmosphere created in the film. They have also appreciated the occasional comic punches in the film.

The film is the first one by director Anam Biswas who was the screenwriter of Amitabh Reza's box-office hit Aynabazi. He has also written screenplay for Debi. The film is also a first for Joya Ahsan as a producer.
