The six-day long 25th Kolkata International Film Festival 2019 commenced on November 8. The film 'Chandrabati Kotha', which has got a grant from the government of Bangladesh for its making, is going to be premiered for the first time at the festival. Directed by N Rashed Chowdhury and co produced by Bengal Creations, the film has gone to compete for the NETPAC award under the 'Asian Select' category at the festival.
As part of the festival, 'Chandrabati Kotha', with a run time of 105 minute, will have its first show on November 9 around 3 pm at Rabindra Sadan, a cultural centre and theatre in Kolkata. Then, the film will also be screened on November 13 at Ajanta Cinema Hall of Kolkata. There will also be a screening of the film at 'Jogza-NETPAC Asian film Festival', scheduled to take place from November 19 to November 23.
Based on the life of the first Bengali feminist poet 'Chandrabati', the plot of the film recaptures the era of medieval Bengali literature through the adaption of 'Mymensingh Geetika'. Cast of the film includes Dilruba Hossain Doyel, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Gazi Rakayet, Arman Parvez, Mita Rahman and other. The director himself wrote the screenplay of the film. This is also the debut work done by N Rashed Chowdhury. The shooting took place at different locations of Mymensingh, Netrokona and Kishoreganj district for 2 years. After getting censor certificate the film is expected to be released at the beginning of the next year.
