With the movement of students raging throughout the capital the cultural arena has certainly slowed down. Still two new and original productions have been staged at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segunbagicha in the capital. Drama troupe Natyadhara on August 1 staged their newest drama Charlie. Based on the life of the phenomenal Charlie Chaplin the drama has been acted, written and directed by Litu Sakhawat.
As Charlie Chaplin lived his life, with a smile on his face against extreme poverty, the drama Charlie gives the same message. According to Litu the drama gives the message of fulfillment of life, in spite of being in the worst scenario. Other actors of the drama are Dipannita Iti, Nasir Uddin Bhuiyan, Sabyasachi Chanchal, Kamal Hosen, Rafikul Islam, Gazi Rahisul Islam, Hafsa Akter, Robin, Miraz and more.
On the other hand theatre troupe Palakar yesterday premiered their new drama "Ujane Mrittu" at the Studio Theatre Hall of Shilpakala Academy. The drama like Syed Waliullah's depiction of the life of Bengaless depicts the true ever-present image of this people. Bangalees or Bangladeshis are always struggling through poverty and hardship. This drama curiously bears resemblance with Natyadhara's Charlie by trying to seek out the positive look of life despite hardships. However some longings remain as only deep sighs like the 'remains' found in the tides of rivers. n
