The budget for Bangabandhu biopic has been finalised. It will be 40 crore taka. As it would be a joint-production with the government of India, India would pay forty percent of the budget that is 16 crore taka. Bangladesh would pay for the rest of the sixty percent. This decision was taken at a meeting between officials from the two countries on May 7 in New Delhi. The five-member Bangladeshi team in the meeting was led by Gowher Rizvi, Prime Minister's Advisor for International Affairs alongside Information Secretary Abdul Malek; Deputy Secretary for Information, Protap Chandra Biswas; BFDC Director of Production, Nuzhat Yasmin and director of docufilm on Sheikh Hasina, Hasina: A Daughter's Tale, Rezaur Rahman Khan Piplu.
On part of India present were director of the film Shyam Benegal and officials from India's Doordarshan TV and All-India Radio. It has been confirmed that within weeks the agreement will be signed. Bangladeshi representatives returned yesterday from New Delhi.
About the meeting Shyam Benegal has said that they held a lengthy meeting on May 7. For making the film hefty research works is necessary. Then the screenplay will be finalised in keeping with different languages.
Earlier in April Benegal visited Bangladesh to get an idea about the country and about Bangabandhu. He met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and attended a meeting at BFDC. He also visited the Bangabandhu Film City in Shafipur, Gazipur.
