Third edition pays tribute to Jasimuddin’s “Nakshi Kanthar Math”
MW Bangladesh hosted the third edition of Maya: Bengal in Motion, paying tribute to Palli Kabi Jasimuddin and his celebrated work Nakshi Kanthar Math.
The event took place on April 17 at the Aloki Convention Centre in Dhaka and was jointly organised by MW Magazine Bangladesh and MAYA, the natural wellness brand of Square Toiletries Limited.
This year's edition was thoughtfully curated to honour Jasimuddin's literary legacy. The programme is scheduled to be broadcast on Maasranga Television on April 29, marking International Dance Day.
The audience remained deeply engaged throughout the evening, many expressing a strong emotional connection to the performance.
Widely regarded as one of Jasimuddin's finest works, Nakshi Kanthar Math has been translated into numerous languages worldwide. It was first adapted into a dance drama in 1959 by Bulbul Lalitakala Academy.
Continuing that tradition, this year's Bengal in Motion reimagined the timeless narrative through a folk dance drama, retelling the poignant tale of love and separation between Rupai and Saju.
Since its inception, MAYA has remained closely associated with the Bengal in Motion platform, reinforcing its commitment to art, literature, and culture. The initiative continues to create meaningful opportunities for local artists to showcase their talent, helping them gain recognition both nationally and internationally.
The evening featured performances by renowned artists Shamim Ara Nipa, Shibli Mohammad, and the troupe Nrityanchal. The production was curated by Anisul Islam Hero.
Blending music, dance, and expressive storytelling, the performers vividly brought to life the simplicity and beauty of rural Bengal. The audience remained captivated throughout the evening, responding with deep emotional engagement and admiration.
Among the distinguished attendees was Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Toiletries Ltd, along with other prominent guests. Welcome addresses were delivered by Rumana Chowdhury, Editor and Publisher of MW Magazine Bangladesh, and Malik Mohammed Sayeed, CEO of Square Toiletries Limited.
In his remarks, Sayeed highlighted MAYA's ongoing mission to bring world-class natural wellness products closer to people across Bangladesh. He reaffirmed the brand's commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that celebrate the nation's heritage, encouraging audiences to reconnect with their roots, rhythms, and identity.
This year's event was broadcast in partnership with Maasranga Television. Mediacom Limited served as PR partner, Aegis Security Forces as security partner, Sun Communications Limited handled overall event management, and Eskay Events was responsible for event decoration.
