'Kontho', starred by celebrated Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan, is one of the most admired and profitable movies of Pacchim Bangla this year. Now the movie, jointly directed by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy, will also be released in 10 cinema halls of Bangladesh under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement. Supervised by Impress Telefilm Ltd, The scheduled release date of 'Kontho' is November 8. Jaya Ahsan featured the role of Romila Chowdhury in the movie.
Earlier, the movie, produced by Windows Production House, was released on May 10 of this year in Pacchim Bangla. Screening of the movie also took place in some other regions of India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengalore and Hyderabad. It was also released in London and 16 cities of the USA. The earning of 'Kontho' reached the mark of 2 crore Rupee on the 11th day of its release in Pacchim Bangla. There will be a remake of this movie in Malayalam language featuring the title 'Meri Awaj Suno', where national award winning Indian actor Jayasurya will take up the lead role.
The story of 'Kontho' revolves around a Radio Jockey (RJ), who lost his voice due to laryngeal cancer. Jaya Ahsan, who acted as a teacher, appears as a voice therapist and trains the RJ to communicate. The director Shiboprosad Mukherjee himself took the role of RJ whereas actress Paoli Dam appeared as his wife in the movie.
