FIFA World Cup is always termed as the 'Greatest Show on Earth' where 32 teams from five confederations across the world complete the eight groups after their hard-fought battles for qualifications.
The football fraternity is few days away to witness the 21st version of FIFA World Cup to be held in 12 venues in 11 host cities of Russia from June 14 to July 15.
Though it's still a dream for Bangladesh to qualify for the World Cup, there is no dearth of crazy fans' showing their love in different ways during each edition of the world event.
It is already all too evident from the ambience that of all the footballing nations vying for FIFA's coveted trophy Argentina, Brazil and Germany are ahead as far as their support bases in Bangladesh is concern. These are the three teams getting much of the supports from Bangladesh's football lovers.
The fan followers bring out 'joy rally' motorcycle rally, wear jerseys of their favourite teams, headband and the most visible thing is the hoisting of flags of the world cup playing nations, which started around a month ahead of the start of the event. The impact remains vibrant throughout the year of FIFA World Cup final. Fans wave the flags of the world cup football participating countries at times hoisting those alongside the national flag of Bangladesh.
They also arrange giant screen shows during matches at different squares of big cities like Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and Cumilla.
The Bangladeshi football buffs are least worried with the concern that whether their favourite teams have got any idea of their fan craze in Bangladesh. They remain busy in football madness for almost two-three months, hoist different sizes flags in different spots, including rooftops of the buildings of academic institutions, hostels, residential and commercial areas in cities and even it's also a common sight at the remote villages across the country.
A crazy fan of Brazilian football in Bangladesh, Joynal Abedin Tutul, painted his residence with green and yellow coulor of Brazil flag. Tutul named his building at Lalpure, Fatullah in Narayanganj -- as Brazil Bari [Brazil Home].
Among the academic institutions, Dhaka University (DU) is on the forefront of football craze with its residential students making full fun out of the World Cup season. They chant slogans at midnight at campus area, hoist flags, do artworks through wall paintings and open supporters' group page on social media platforms.
A second year student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, who resides at Kobi Jashimuddin Hall, said "It has become difficult to concentrate on studies or sleep at night due to noise of slogans. The hall authority forbade not paint onto wall of the hall on Monday."
One will get to see giant size flags mostly of Argentina's and Brazil's all over the places. A student of Salimullah Muslim Hall said, "We are hopeful that Argentina will win this edition of World Cup. We are thinking of forming a committee apart from other supporting activity."
A core supporter of Brazil who resides in Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, said,"Stunning all the other teams, Brazil will clinch the World Cup trophy. This time our all players will give their best."
Now it's become a common topic of discussion or debate among the students, teachers, officials and workers at DU when they meet their peers.
