Masud Jamil Khan, grandson of Brigadier General Shaheed Jamil Uddin Ahmad (Bir Uttam) and a member of the ruling Awami League's Finance and Planning Committee, has said he wants to work for the people of Kushtia.
"The good news is that Bangladesh economy is changing in a positive way and it is changing fast with over 6 percent GDP growth for the last few years. But we need to do more," he declared while speaking at an Iftar Mahfil at Kumarkhali on June 1.
Masud Khan, a young entrepreneur, wants to contest the next parliamentary elections from the Kushtia-4 constituency encompassing Khoksa and Kumarkhali upazilas, the seat long held by his grandmother Anjuman Ara Jamil.
He promised to work for the residents of the two upazilas, as he believes it would be a continuation of the legacy left behind by late Anjuman Ara Jamil, wife of Shaheed Jamil Uddin Ahmad.
Masud Khan, Director at Cosmos Group and news agency UNB, recollected some of the fond memories tied to Kumarkhali that he shared with his grandmother when he was young.
He said his grandmother had instilled in him the vision of politics as the best way to help people, and always expressed her desire for him to help the people of Kushtia-4 constituency - a mantle he now believes he is ready to take up.
Masud Khan helped the audience recollect that his grandfather Brigadier General Shaheed Jamil Uddin Ahmad was the one brave soul who dared to come to the aid of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the fateful night of August 15th 1975, before being gunned down.
He also relived some of the highlights from the illustrious career as an MP of Anjuman Ara Jamil, who was like a guardian, loved by all before her demise on November 30, 2012.
Masud talked about how she had laid the path to infrastructure development and social equality for the people of Kushtia-4 as envisioned by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He also focused on the ongoing development of the country under the current government and stressed the need to do more for the people of the region.
Some 300 locals, including politicians, teachers and journalists, attended the Iftar hosted by Masud.
He appreciated everyone present for their overwhelming response to his Iftar and hoped that they would shower him with the same blessings as they did to his grandparents.
During the event, Masud Khan's wife Kate Jaro Khan, Atikur Rahman potik union jubo league, Tanvir Alam son of Ex-Chairman Shahudul Alam, Raihan Biswash sadoki union jubo league Leader, Headmaster of Hasimpur Primary School Md Nur Uddin, and assistant commander of Kumarkhali Muktijoddha Command Babul Hossain, among others, were present.
