Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said Bangladesh and China will sign an agreement within next two months to construct six independent government TV network stations in divisional headquarters.

"For the first time China has come up with support in this area. We hope to sign agreement within next two months so that we can go for construction of these networks," he said.

The Information Minister was addressing as the chief guest at a workshop on "Bangladesh-China Media Cooperation' hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the city on July 8.

Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Zhang Zuo, editors of newspapers, news agencies and private television channels spoke at the function moderated by Deputy Chief of Mission in Chinese Embassy Chen Wei.

"Bangladesh and China are very close friends. We have excellent cultural and economic relations. The relations are expanding in all areas," said the Information Minister.

Inu said China and Bangladesh are linked culturally and ideologically and the relations reached to new heights after Chinese President's Bangladesh visit. "Bangladesh and China widened and broadened their relations. There is no looking back."

He laid emphasis on role of media in promoting Bangladesh-China relations saying the broader relations should be reflected in the media.

Chinese envoy said China wants to start a new chapter with Bangladesh working together towards a common goal of development sowing seeds for Bangladesh-China friendship.

"Let's work together towards a common goal. Let's become the loudspeaker for China-Bangladesh relations, the seed drill for China-Bangladesh friendship, and the propeller for China-Bangladesh cooperation," said the Chinese Ambassador.

The Ambassador, who came here five months ago, said the achievements made in the development of China-Bangladesh relations are inseparable from the efforts of the media community.

"Bangladesh is a good neighbor and a good friend to China. After the successful state visit of President Xi Jinping to Bangladesh in October, 2016, our bilateral relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership of Cooperation, thus starting a new chapter in the development of our bilateral ties," he said.

Ambassador Zuo said now the relations are facing "unprecedented opportunities" for cooperation, which provides a favorable environment and external conditions for media cooperation between the two countries.

Against the backdrop of jointly building the Strategic Partnership of Cooperation in the new era, he proposed four suggestions for media cooperation.

First, to actively build a communication mechanism and deepen bilateral media cooperation, second, to focus on integration and innovation to bring media cooperation to a higher level, third, to build a bridge of friendship and expand exchanges and mutual learning between China Bangladesh media and fourth, to further share development opportunities and enrich the forms of media cooperation.
