At least 18 people, including an Ansar member, were killed in election-related violence in Noakhali, Rangamati, Chattogram, Cumilla, Rajshahi, Natore,Tangail, Narsingdi, Bogura, Brahmanbaria, Gazipur, Sylhet, Jashore and Cox's Bazar districts on Sunday.
Among the victims, eight were said to be activists of the ruling Awami League (AL) while one was the leader of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and another agent of a BNP candidate.
In Noakhali, Nurun Nabi, an Ansar member, was shot dead by miscreants at Tulachara Primary School polling station of Noakhali-3 constituency, said presiding officer Prof Dr Suchon Chowdhury.
In Chattogram, Ahmed Kabir, 45, an activist of Jatiya Party, was killed in a clash between AL and Jatiya Party activists in Banskhali upazila.
In Rangamati, Bashir Uddin, general secretary of Kashkhali union Jubo League unit, was killed in an attack allegedly by some BNP activists at Kashkhali union in Kaukhali upazila.
In Cumilla, Bachchu Mia, 35, was killed in a clash between Awami League and BNP supporters, said district police special branch sub-inspector Mahbub Morshed.
Besides, Muzibur Rahman, 35, a rickshaw-puller, was killed in a clash between ruling AL and BNP men at Paschim Belashwar village in Chandian upazila.
In Rajshahi, AL supporter Merajul Islam, 30, was killed in a clash between BNP and AL men in Pakuria Government High School centre at Jahanabad union in Mohanpur upazila over capturing a polling centre of Rajshahi-3 constituency, said Rajshahi police chief Shahidullah.
Besides, Modasser Ali, 40, organising secretary of AL No-8 ward at Panchandar union in Tanore upazila, was killed in a clash between BNP and AL men over capturing Mohammadpur High School polling station of Rajshahi-1 constituency, said Tanore police OC Rezaul Islam.
In Natore, AL supporter Hussain Ali, was stabbed to death by his nephew Ratan Fakir following an altercation over casting vote at Samskholsi village in Naldanga upazila.
In Narsingdi, AL polling agent Milon Miah, 35, was hacked to death allegedly by supporters of opposition candidate at Kundarpara Primary School centre of Shibpur of Narsingdi-3 constituency, said Shibpur police station OC Abul Kalam Azad.
In Bogura, AL activist Azizul Islam, 30, was killed and five others were injured in a clash between AL and BNP activists at Bagil polling station in Kahalu upazila over capturing polling station, said Paikor Union Parishad Chairman Mitu Chowdhury.
In Brahmanbaria, Israil, 19, was shot dead and three others suffered bullet wounds 'in police firing' during a clash between supporters of AL and BNP at Rajghar Government Primary School polling centre of Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.
In Cox's Bazar, Abdullah Al Faruque, 25, was killed in a clash between BNP and AL men in Rajakhali Government Primary School polling station of Cox's Bazar-1 constituency, said Pekua police station OC Tanzir Hossain.
In Gazipur, AL leader Liakat Hossain, was stabbed to death at Harinal in the city. Quoting his brother, Sadar police station OC Samir Sutra Dhar said local Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal activists stabbed him at a polling centre. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
In Sylhet, Chhatra Dal's Balaganj Upazila unit general secretary Sayem Ahmed Sohel was shot dead during a clash over occupying Azizpur Government Primary School polling centre in the upazila.
Quoting witnesses, Mahbubul Alam, sub-inspector of Balaganj Police Station, said a group of people swooped on the polling centre around 3:50pm and tried to capture it. As the rival party obstructed them, a clash broke out. At one stage, Sohel sustained bullet wounds and died on the spot.
In Jashore, Shamsur Rahman, 82, an agent of BNP candidate for Jashore-4 constituency Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was beaten to death allegedly by his rival group while going to a polling centre.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi's local AL leader Ismail Hossain, 50, who sustained injuries during a clash between the ruling party and BNP activists in Godagari upazila on Sunday, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital early Monday.
Godagari police OC Abdur Razzak said was injured in the clash between AL-BNP men at Lalpur-Dhomorpur School and College polling centre. Later, he was admitted to RMCH ICU where he succumbed to his injuries.
Besides, Sakhawat Hossain, 21, who sustained bullet wounds in firing on Sunday in Cumilla's Barura upazila died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday.
His brother Iman Hossain said Sakhawat and some villagers rushed to the polling centre on Sunday morning after hearing an announcement of a fire incident at the polling station. Some miscreants fired shots at them, leaving three men, including Sakhawat, injured.
