Facebook has declined from setting up an office or installing its local service in Bangladesh right now as the market size is not suitable for such a move as yet. A nine-member delegation of Facebook led by its Public Policy Manager Varun Reddy shared this in a meeting with Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar at BTRC office in Dhaka.

The delegation members assured that they will comply with all the requests placed by Bangladesh government as early as possible but it will not be sustainable to set up an office in capital Dhaka at the moment, Md Jahurul Haque, chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said after the meeting. However, Facebook will appoint a local representative for Bangladesh market within next four to six weeks to make the process faster to ensure value added tax and government revenues from their advertisement earnings.

Director general of the National Identity Registration Wing of the Election Commission Brigadier General Saidul Islam said some 15 EC staff were involved in providing NID cards to Rohingyas. 'We have specific data over how many staff were involved. We're not disclosing their names for the sake of investigation. But the number is not more than 15,' he said at a press conference arranged at his office to reveal the primary reports of an investigation committee.

The DG said they would disclose the names in phases. 'The involved staff will be brought to book soon. The EC will do everything necessary to ensure their maximum punishment.' Saidul said the commission had started a drive against all the irregularities and would take all necessary measures to protect the NID database.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said collaboration among countries at regional and global levels is fundamental to accelerate progress in the Universal Health Coverage. "Resource mobilisation to ensure Universal Health Coverage is a fundamental obstacle in many countries. Effective global partnership to formulate healthcare financing strategy for each country could be an important tool to achieve UHC and ultimately SDGs by 2030," she said.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing 'Multi-stakeholder Panel' held in parallel to the High-level meeting on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) on the theme 'UHC as driver of equity, inclusive development and prosperity for all'. Sheikh Hasina along with her Spanish counterpart Pedro Sánchez co-chaired the programme held at ECOSOC Chamber of the UN Headquarters.

Two Bangladeshi companies are set to export liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to the landlocked northeastern states of India. Omera Petroleum and Beximco LPG will export LPG to state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), which will bottle and sell to consumers. "After a successful trial run last month, we are going to export a consignment of LPG formally on Thursday," Shamsul Haque Ahmed, chief executive officer of Omera, told reporters.

The consignment will be shipped to Bishalgarh, a town in Sepahijala district of Tripura in India, through Bibirbazar border point in Cumilla. Omera will initially export 1,000 tonnes of LPG per month, with the quantity going up to 3,000 tonnes over the next six months.
