A major reshuffle has taken place in the top positions of Bangladesh Army, with Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan relieved from service. In a press release, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate also said Lt Gen Saiful Alam has been stationed at the foreign ministry, while Lt Gen Mujibur Rahman has been appointed as GOC at Army Training and Doctrine Command, Lt Gen Ahammad Tabrej Shams Chowdhury as quarter master general, Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim as chief of general staff, Lt Gen Mohammad Shahinul Haque as commandant of NDC, and Maj Gen ASM Ridwanur Rahman as director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC).

This comes after the country's President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament, a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country. Ziaul Ahsan was later stopped from leaving the country, as he attempted to flee on a late night flight on Tuesday night.

Executives appointed after the takeover of Islami Bank in 2017 will not be allowed to enter the bank, following the spectacular exit of the Sheikh Hasina-led government. "These executive officers were appointed under the patronage of Sheikh Hasina under the direction of S Alam Group. The rules of appointment were not followed to appoint those executives," said a top official of Islami Bank.

The Certified Bank Auditors of the bank gathered in front of Islami Bank's Motijheel head office and made such a demand, the day after Hasina was airlifted to India. From 2017 onwards all illegal non-examination recruitments will be cancelled. At the same time, those who have been illegally terminated will be reinstated. Those who have been deprived of promotion in the last seven years will be given back their proper promotion. Head SAVP of Islami Bank's operation wing Kamal Uddin Jasim said, "We got second freedom through students. With wisdom, we must pick up this achievement."

Brigadier General (suspended) Abdullahil Amaan Azmi and Supreme Court lawyer Ahmad Bin Kashem Arman were released after eight years of captivity. They returned to their respective homes in the early hours on Tuesday, according to sources. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami confirmed their release through a post on its verified Facebook page. Azmi is the son of late Ghulam Azam, the former ameer (chief) of the Jamaat-e-Islami, while Arman is the son of late Mir Kashem Ali, the party's central executive committee member who was executed for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

Arman was forcefully picked from his residence in the DOHS area of Mirpur in Dhaka on August 9, and Azmi on August 23 of 2016. They had since been missing, said their families. In a latest development, some former army men and relatives of the victims of enforced disappearance gathered at Kachukhet near the Dhaka cantonment on Monday night and demanded that the captives of the so-called 'AynaGhor', an alleged torture cell of DGFI, be released.

The Bangladesh Bank has withdrawn its earlier restriction on journalists' access to its building after more than four months of its imposition following a meeting with journalists. A day after Sheikh Hasina resigned from her prime ministerial post and fled the country following a public uprising, a group of journalists led by the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) entered Bangladesh Bank to reclaim their access rights.

Following a discussion meeting with the journalists, Deputy Governor Kazi Sayedur Rahman said they can enter the Bangladesh Bank premises freely from now on and also instructed relevant officials to immediately lift the ban. Three other deputy governors and an executive director of the bank were also present at the meeting. Commenting on the governor's absence, Kazi Sayedur Rahman said, "The governor is not in the office today [yesterday] due to mental stress; he has asked everyone to continue with their work."
