Enayetullah Khan, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive of United News of Bangladesh (UNB) and Dhaka Courier, Board Member of AAID, joined the "Hague Summit for Accountability and Internet Democracy - Shaping an Internet of Values", on May 31st 2018 in the Peace Palace, The Hague, the Netherlands. The summit was hosted by the City of The Hague and the Institute for Accountability and Internet Democracy (IAID), in partnership with the UNESCO the ITU and the Association for Accountability and Internet Democracy (AAID).
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Mrs. Kasja Ollongren opened the Summit. Invited international dignitaries included Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Houlin Zhao, Secretary General of the ITU and Lord David Puttnam, member House of Lords, UK and other prominent members of the AAID Board, Danish Minister Tom Hoyem, former German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, French Senator Nathalie Goulet, Alvaro Gil-Robles, first commissioner of Human Rights with the European Council.
The Hague Summit explored the question of how to safeguard the role of the internet as a tool for personal and social engagement. Delegates at the Summit will continue working towards developing concrete steps to increase access to knowledge, transparency, global common understanding, evidence-based trust and accountability, and thus to promote maximum sustainable net benefit for people and societies worldwide. n
