Marking the 55th birth anniversary of late renowned singer, composer, lyricist and journalist Sanjeeb Choudhury, the 8th edition of 'Sanjeeb Utsab 2019' was held on December 25 at the Sanjeeb Chattar of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University in the capital. In association with Dhaka University Cultural Society, Dhaka University Band Society and Ajob Karkhana, the organiser of the event was Sanjeeb Utsab Udjapon Parishad. Starting at 4 in the afternoon, the concert lasted till 10 pm.
Artistes and bands like Joy Shahriar, Elita Karim, GaanKobi, Shohortoli, Arjan Band and others performed at the event.
During the mid-90s, Sanjeeb, along with Bappa Mazumder formed the band Dalchhut and the duo remained as the lead singers of the band until Sanjeeb's unfortunate death. He composed four albums of Dalchhut, as well as wrote and tuned many songs. His only solo album was Swapnobaji (2005). He worked as a journalist for many years in renowned newspapers such as Ajker Kagoj, Bhorer Kagoj, and Jaijaidin. During the mass upsurge against the autocratic regime of Hossain Mohammad Ershad, he was a n activist and protestor.
In 1996, Dalchhut released their first album 'Ahh'. Dalchhut's second album was 'Hridoypur', which happened to be their most popular album. In this album, Bappa and Sanjeeb sang the song 'Gari Chole Na' of renowned folk maestro Shah Abdul Karim. 'Ami Tomakei Bole Debo', sang by Sanjeeb Choudhury, is another popular song of this album.
The youthful singer and journalist breather his last on November 19, 2007 from brain hemorrhage at the Intensive Care Unit of Apollo Hospital in Dhaka after a sudden sickness on 15 November 2007, the day before the catastrophic Cyclone SIDR dissipated. He was only 42 years old.
