Sounak Das, student of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute has been shortlisted in the student competition of 2019 Sony World Photography Awards for his powerful photographic series tilted Wire Formation. Subsequently there was a second challenge where he created the second series titled Urban Monuments, an architectural body of work that pictures the road network in Dhaka. In this year's competition under the student category, Sounak Das along with nine young photographers have been shortlisted at the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards.
This expo will begin in April when Sounak Das, his tutor from Pathshala and nine shortlisted students would be attending the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony in London.
The students will receive expert portfolio reviews, a masterclass with world-renowned artist Nadav Kander. The winning and shortlisted images of the students would be featured as part of the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition. The images will be exhibited in London from April 18 until May 6, 2019. The winner of the desired student photographer of the year would be made on April 17, 2019 and would be receiving 30,000€ worth of Sony photography equipment for her/his institution.
This year there was record-breaking number of entries with more than 327,000 images for the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards and its distinct four competitions: Professional, Open, Student and Youth. The Sony World Photography Awards is one of the most celebrated and diverse photography competitions in the world. Now in its 12th year the goal is to showcase the best contemporary photography worldwide.
