Shilpakala Academy has taken up a pledge to reintroduce Dhaka's citizens with its peaceful old heritage. With that in mind the academy officials held a press conference on July 24 to unveil plans for cultural programmes for the coming month till the run up to the Asian Art Biennale in September. In that regard the academy will arrange a three-day-long performance art show from July 26. The shows will be held in open space for the general people to witness and enjoy. The shows will be held in Old Dhaka, Dhaka University Campus, National Parliament area and Manik Mia Avenue, Kamlapur Railway Station. Sixteen artistes under the leadership of Mahbubur Rahman will take part in the shows.
These artistes will also perform in the upcoming Asian Art Biennale due to start from September 1 at Shilpakala Academy. Fourteen other artistes from different parts of the world will also perform in the biennale. Performance Art was incorporated as an event in the sixteenth Asian Art Biennale. Sixty-six artists are set to take part in the eighteenth edition of the biennale this year. n
