Shirin Akter Shela has become the first Miss Universe Bangladesh 2019. Out of the top 10 contestants, Shela has been chosen as the winner of first ever beauty pageant in Bangladesh. At the colourful grand finale held on October 23, sensational Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen, who won of the title of Miss Universe in 1994, crowned the winner at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the city. Alisha Islam and Jessia Islam have respectively won the first and second runner up title at the competition.
Born in Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh, Shela is a 3rd year student of Physics Department at University of Dhaka. She possesses both social and career related positive ambitions.
Susmita Sen said "I am excited to join at the event. It is a momentous occasion because we are making a history by sending the first ever representative of Bangladesh to Miss Universe. I pay my heartiest congratulations to the winner and all the participants of the competition."
This is the first time Miss Universe Bangladesh has been organised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The journey started from when the registration began at the end of the July in this year. Before the beginning of elimination process, the first round started with 12,000+ registrations. And then over the past three months of boot camp a winner has been finally chosen.
The franchise owner for Bangladesh Miss Universe is a consortium between 'RIZ events' and 'Off Track and Trilogy'. Rizwan Bin Farouq is the Chairman of Miss Universe Bangladesh. Sohel A Chaklader Duke, Shafik Islam and Mithun Zaman are the directors of the company.
