Noted film director, ad maker, editor, Saidul Anam Tutul passed away on December 18. He was 68. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Saidul Anam Tutul was admitted to hospital on December15 following a heart attack. Doctors suggested that he should be kept in Coronary Care Unit or CCU. On December 17 his life support was taken off. But things got really worse and out of control as he suffered another heart attack.

Saidul Anam Tutul first shined as a film editor. The first film with Government's Grant Surja Dighal Bari released in 1979 was edited by him. Along with Best Film, Best Director and other awards in seven categories in the National Film Awards the film also ensured Best Editing Award for Saidul Anam Tutul. He then went on to successfully edit a number of other popular films like-Ghuddi (1980), Dahan (1986), Dipu Number Two (1996) and Dukhai (1997). He took up film direction for the first time in 2003 with the film Adhiyar. Released in 2003 the film brought National Film Award in the Best Story category for Selim Al Deen.

Before his death, the director had been working on a project that has received the government's grant this year. The film titled 'Kalbela' is based on a 2001 book published by Ain O Salish Kendra. The book focuses on narrative stories of women during the Liberation War and in its aftermath.

Saidul Anam Tutul was the founding general secretary of Directors' Guild and also its lifetime members. Along with a big screen production he also directed a number of small screen dramas.
