Nova is a psychedelic, progressive and hard rock band in Bangladesh, formed in 1985 in Dhaka. They were noted for their progressive compositions, thoughtful lyrics, sonic experimentation, album art and live shows. Ahmed Fazal, Bassist Sadi and Drummer Mahmood played together in a new English Band Strangers organized by Zafar before the latter disbanded in 1985. Nova enjoyed moderate success in 80's as a psychedelic band led by Ahmed Fazal.
After forming the band went on to record several elaborate concept albums, achieving countrywide success with 1989's Ahbban, one of the best-selling and most enduringly popular albums in Bangladesh rock history. After releasing its first album Ahbban in 1989 Nova tremendously involved with countrywide concert.
Nova started their recording session for their second album Rajakarer Talika Chai in 1990 and successfully released the album in 1991. Nova Released its third album School Polatok May in 1993 with most popular tracks "School Polatok May" and "Shopno Rani" achieving one of the best-selling and most enduringly popular albums in Bangladesh rock history.
They were at their peak in the 1990s, establishing themselves as one of the most popular bands of that time in Bangladesh. The band went into a hiatus in the 2000s but made a comeback with the album "Return of the Nova" released in 2010.
The most successful and the bestselling albums that quenched the thirst of millions of music lovers in home and abroad are Ahbban (1989), Rajakarer Talika Chai (1991), School Polatok Meye (1993), Vaiso (1996), Nova 99 (1999) and Thikana (2003). School Polatok Meye is also considered as one of their successful and hieght sale album in that time produced by Sound Tec.
Busy with their professional lives, Nova still makes an effort to perform in live televised programmes.
The band was initially formed with five members, Ahmed Fazal (Vocal and Guitar), Moy (Drums), Valo (Bass), Tolo (Keyboard) and Zafar (Manager and Guitar). Their current lineup includes Ahmed Fazal (Vocal and Guitar), Noor (Bass), Rubel (Drums), Apu (Keyboard) and Ahmed Souren (vocals and guitar). Charu (Bass), Pappu (Keyboard), Rana (Drums) and Ruzvelt (Keyboard) and Sree also played in Nova in different times.
