After a hiatus, veteran artist Biren Shome's solo exhibition was recently held at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi. Liberation War and the scenic beauty of Bangladesh were the major themes at the exhibition of Biren Shome. Shome is one of the major painters of the '60s who has been consistently maintaining a significant role in the contemporary Bangladeshi art scene. He was a freedom fighter as well. Throughout his illustrious career, the artist has worked on varied themes, portraying them in his personal style and technique. His themes have always been closely connected to the soil of Bengal and its people. At the exhibition, his works delved deep into realistic, semi-realistic and pure abstraction. The themes emerge in his works symbolically and at times according to his paintings' characters. The painter feels that nature come into view in his works through his personal observations and experiences.

Shome works with acrylic, oil and pen, and uses many mediums and techniques for bringing dimension to his works. Red, azure and emerald green are predominant in his works. Coarse lines and soft texture carry a distinct mark in his paintings. His compositions are neatly organised, demonstrating soothing tones and aesthetic arrangement of space. People dedicated their lives, hopes and dreams during the Liberation War as portrayed mainly by pigeons, sun and spirited movements. Patriotism has a considerable place in the core of his paintings. Shome gives the viewers a complete picture of the Liberation War. Shome likes to display a certain romantic concern for vivacious hues. Most of his compositions are based on solid texture and organised forms. Many of his works feature darker shades. He meticulously presents the topic with delicate lines and eye-catching composition.
