Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury alongside Bulbul Sarwar have been declared as recipients of IFIC Bank Sahitya Puroshkar 2017. Serajul Islam Choudhury will receive the award for his essay 'Obiram Path'. On the other hand Bulbul Sarwar will get the award for his travelogue 'Shapnabhraman Jerusalem.'
The awards will be conferred officially soon with a prize money of five lac taka, a crest and certificate. Every year IFIC Bank Sahitya Puroshkar is conferred by a jury panel consisting of noted litterateurs and literary critics of the country. The award is provided for the best two books published in Bangla language within the geopolitical boundaries of Bangladesh. The award was started in 2011.
Serajul Islam Choudhury is a Bangladeshi literary critic, public intellectual, social and political analyst, activist, historian, educationist, editor, translator, columnist, and professor emeritus at the University of Dhaka. He is the editor of Natun Diganta. Considered one of the foremost oppositional intellectuals of Bangladesh, he authored nearly a hundred books and countless essays in Bangla and English.
Born in 1962 in Gopalganj Bulbul Sarwar is a poet, translator and storyteller. A graduate of Dhaka Medical College Sarwar is a professional doctor. He has been involved with Enam Medical College, BCPS, Gonoshastho Samajvittik Medical College, Bangladesh Open University among others. He has published seventy-six books till now.
