A true story on a martyred Freedom Fighter is being adapted for the silver screen. The film titled "Omar Faruker Maa" is about the Freedom Fighter Omar Faruk who was killed in the Liberation War and his mother. Pre-production works of the film is currently undergoing and actors for the two major roles have already been selected. Sayeed Babu will play Omar Faruk while Dilara Zaman will play his mother. National Award winner Masum Reza has penned the screenplay of the film. It will be directed by MM Jahidur Rahman Biplab.
In the film Omar Faruk is a 21-year old youth. He is the VP of the students' council of Pirojpur Government Suhrawardy College. As the war starts he gets entangled. One night he leaves home promising his mother that he will return that very night to eat dinner from her hand. But he gets caught by the Pakistani Army who find seven Bangladeshi flags in his person. Soon afterwards his corpse is set afloat in the Kirtankhala River.
Back at home his mother keeps waiting for him. Even after forty-six years have passed since the war, she cooks rice three times a day, hoping that her song might come to eat rice.
Other lead actors of the film include Shahed Sharif Khan, Khairul Alam Shabuj, Naznin Hasan Chumki, Salma Rahman, Ainun Putul, Ripon Chowdhury, Kazi Razu, Syed Shuvo, Bannya Mirza. The film will go for shoots from this very month in Pirojpur and Barisal.
