Under the title 'Bangladesh International Theatre Festival', the week-long theatre festival concluded at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the city on June 26.
On the concluding day of the festival, Nikolai Zykov Theatre from Russia staged light puppet show at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Earlier on June 20, the week-long festival was inaugurated at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. Presided over by Cultural Affairs Ministry's Acting Secretary Dr. Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister M A Mannan graced the occasion as the chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the festival.
The weeklong festival featured theatre and puppet shows by eight troupes from seven countries. Besides, the festival also featured seminar, lecture and workshops. Six theatre troupes from Russia, China, France, India, Vietnam and Nepal, along with two local troupes performed at the festival.
Rabindranath Tagore's much-acclaimed dance drama Mayar Khela directed by Oarda Rihab staged on the opening day after the inaugural ceremony. On the second day, France theatre troupe Theatre de Vidy Lausanne and Young Vic London staged the drama 'Oh My Sweet Land' at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA while, the drama Macbeth was staged by Chorus Repertory Theatre of India at the main auditorium of BSA.
The third day of festival, a seminar on Meeting and Transmitting of the International, National and Sub-altern in the Theatre Space held at Seminar Room. Meanwhile, Annesha Theatre from Bangladesh staged Joytun Bibir Pala at the main auditorium of Shilpakala.
Mandala Theatre from Nepal and Le Ngoc Theatre of Vietnam staged their play Jhyalincha (Dragonfly) and Kim Tu (adapted from The Wilderness) at the main auditorium on June 24 and 25 respectively.
