Seven times National Film Award winning art director Mohiuddin Faruque passed away on April 17 at his residence in the city. He was 78.
Faruque had cold and fever for the last few days and was living in isolation. The family found him unconscious on Friday afternoon and rushed him to Aysha Memorial Hospital in Shahinbag where the duty doctor pronounced him dead. He had been suffering from heart problems for a very long time.
In separate condolence messages, the information minister Hasan Mahmud and state minister for information Md Murad Hasan expressed deep shock at the passing away of Mohiuddin Faruque. Eminent filmmakers, producers and directors have expressed their profound shock at the death of Mohiuddin Faruque.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Ibrahimpur Jaame Masjid. He was buried at Mirpur 11 graveyard. He left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Mohiuddin Faruque was born on January 1, 1944. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for best art direction seven times for the films Basundhora (1977), Dumurer Phool (1978), Pita Mata Santan (1991), Padma Nadir Majhi (1993), Dukhai (1997), Meghla Akash (2001) and Obujh Bou (2010).
After retiring from BTV, Mohiuddin Faruque joined the Department of Film and Media Studies, Stamford University Bangladesh (SUB) as its chairperson in 2008. He was a member of the Film Directors' Guild at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and continued to teach at different other institutions, including Bangladesh Cholochitro O Television Institute (BCTI), as an adjunct faculty member.
The artiste received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Art Direction seven times for the films Bashundhara (1977), Dumurer Phool (1978), Pita Mata Santan (1991), Padma Nadir Majhi (1993), Dukhai (1997), Meghla Akash (2001) and Obujh Bou (2010). His other notable works include Palanka (1975), Lathial (1975), Sareng Bou (1978), Surja Dighal Bari (1979), Rajlokkhi Srikanto (1987), and Chaka (1993).
