The 25th triannual summit of 'International Councils of Museums (ICOM)', an organisation of museum and employees of museum throughout the world, was held from September 1 to September 7 at the Kyoto city of Japan. About 4,500 representatives from 120 countries took part at the summit. From Bangladesh, Jahangir Hussain, chairperson of ICOM-Bangladesh and curator of Asiatic Society Museum; Dr. Sufi Mostafizur Rahman, secretary of ICOM-Bangladesh and professor of Jahangirnagar University; Shikdar Zulqarnine, Professor of Jahangirnagar University and member of ICOM Bangladesh and Md Golam Kawsar, assistant keeper of National Museum of Bangladesh and member of ICOM Bangladesh, attended the summit. Motto of this year's summit was -Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition. The summit was inaugurated by Prince Akishino, crown prince of Japan. Crown princess, educational minister of Japan and many renowned personalities were also present at the summit.
General meeting of the council and meeting of the 85th and 86th advisors council were held at the 7 day- long summit. Besides, seminars, triannual meetings and elections of 30 international committees and 8 local committees of the council were also held at the summit. Architect Kengo Kuma, from Japan, photographer Sebastiao Salgado, from Brazil and artist Cai Guo-Qiang, from China were the keynote speakers respectively on September 2, 3 and September 4. Different essays regarding museums were presented and discussed upon by the international and local committees on the occasion.
Election of ICOM was also held on the occasion. Suay Aksoy has been re-elected as the president of the organisation. On the election Of ICOM-ASPAC, total 8 members including president and secretary have been elected. Jahangir Hussain has also been elected as the member of the new elected board ICOM-ASPAC.
